Bug or feedback: which one?

Two boards, one question: is it broken, or is it missing?

There are two boards, and the difference is simple: is it broken, or is it missing?

Bug Reports

Use this when something used to work, or clearly should work, and does not:

  • An error message, a blank page, a spinner that never stops
  • A button that does nothing
  • Something that behaves differently than it did last week
  • Data that looks wrong

The test: if this were working correctly, would anyone need to make a decision about it? If no — it is a bug.

Feedback Requests

Use this for everything else:

  • A feature that does not exist yet
  • Something that works, but takes too many clicks
  • Confusing labels, poor mobile layout, awkward ordering
  • "I wish it also did X"

Friction counts. "It works but it is painful" is real feedback and belongs here — it is not a bug, and it is not nothing.

When you genuinely cannot tell

Post it anyway, on whichever feels closer.

Moving a post between boards is a single action for an administrator, and the post keeps its votes, its comments and its full history. Nothing is lost. What is lost is the time you spend agonising, and the votes that get split when someone eventually reposts the same thing on the other board.

What not to do

  • Do not post the same thing on both boards. Votes are how prioritisation works, and duplicates split them.
  • Do not bundle. One issue per post. A post covering four problems cannot be given one status or closed by one release.
  • Do search first. Someone has often already posted it, and adding your vote plus a comment describing your specific case is worth more than a second post.
